Fair Trade Productions

Micah 6:8 calls us, as Christians, to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. The Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Fair Trade Coffee Project helps us answer that call by righting the injustices faced by small-scale farmers around the world.

Coffee is big business – it’s one of the most heavily traded commodities in the world. But for the majority of small-scale coffee farmers, the benefits are few. The LWR Fair Trade Coffee Project ensures that more of the money you spend on coffee reaches the farmers who actually grow it. Fair trade coffee is a simple solution that means the difference – quite literally – between surviving and not surviving for small-scale coffee farmers.

Christ the King is a Fair Trade Coffee church! At all of our fellowship events and throughout the week we serve fairly traded coffee. By doing this we are helping farmers earn the income they need to feed their families, educate their children, seek medical care and improve their communities.

Fair Trade products, including coffee, tea and chocolate, are for sale every week in the Entrance Way.

Give Fair Trade Products as gifts! Visit the Lutheran World Relief/Fair Trade website to shop for Chocolates, coffee, tea, home decor items, and other gifts!

Bread for the World

Christ the King has supported Bread for the World's work for several years. Activities include education about world hunger and an annual offering of letters directed to our Congressional delegation urging their support of legislation toward ending hunger in the United States and throughout the World.

Advent Conspiracy

We are an Advent Conspiracy church. The Advent Conspiracy is a movement to make the celebration of Jesus’ birth be about Jesus’ birth. What we don’t want is stress, debt or an anti-climactic celebration. The Advent Conspiracy is about worshiping God more fully, spending less on gifts people don’t want or need and instead giving more of our time to the people we love. Remember that money you saved on gifts? You are encouraged to use some of those savings to love all people and supporting your neighbor in need. You can give the gift of a goat or farming education through ELCA Good Gifts, donate to disaster relief in someone’s name, or make a contribution to CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse) right here in Broome County. Whatever you decide, we hope that your celebration of Christ’s birth shares God’s love with all people.
